SUMMARY:Art Calendar: Ha Chong-Hyun: Retrospective at Asian Art Museum (SF Civic Center) | Sept. 25\, 2026–Jan. 25\, 2027
DESCRIPTION:Ha Chong-Hyun: Retrospective | Sept. 25\, 2026–Jan. 25\, 2027\n\nEXHIBITION DETAILS\nHa Chong-Hyun: Retrospective at San Francisco’s Asian Art Museum marks the first major North American museum exhibition of pioneering Korean artist Ha Chong-Hyun (b. 1935). Featuring more than 50 paintings spanning six decades\, the exhibition explores how Ha challenges the conventions of painting through unconventional materials and techniques. Using industrial burlap\, thick oil paint\, fire\, and everyday tools\, he creates richly textured surfaces that emphasize the physical act of making art. \nA leading figure in Korea’s Dansaekhwa (monochrome painting) movement\, Ha is best known for his Conjunction series\, begun in 1974\, in which he pushes paint through the back of coarse burlap canvases to create distinctive patterns and textures. The retrospective traces his evolution from experimental works of the 1960s to recent paintings incorporating vivid colors\, charred materials\, and ash\, revealing how Korea’s postwar history and rapid industrialization influenced his artistic practice. \nHa Chong-Hyun: Retrospective is on view at the Asian Art Museum (SF Civic Center) through Jan. 25\, 2027. \nQUICK GUIDE: ASIAN ART MUSEUM EXHIBITIONS\, EVENTS\, & VISITOR INFORMATION  \n⭐ ASIAN ART MUSEUM HOURS: Open Friday–Monday 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Thursday 1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. CLOSED TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY. \n⭐ ASIAN ART MUSEUM ADMISSION: \n\n\nGeneral Admission Tickets Adults $20\nSeniors 60+ $17\nAges 13–17\, College Students with ID $14\n12 and under FREE\n*SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS + $10 (Includes access to permanent collections)\nMembership starts at $119 GA; $89 Artist/Senior/Student/Teacher\n\n\n⭐ ASIAN ART MUSEUM DISCOUNTS (FREE GA): \n\n\nFREE FIRST SUNDAYS\nDiscover & Go (Free w/library card – may not apply to all counties)\nSF Museums for All (show your EBT or Medi-Cal card/ID)\nCaregiver (one complimentary guest pass for a caregiver or friend accompanying a visitor with special needs.
