SUMMARY:Art Calendar: Chiharu Shiota: Two Home Countries at Asian Art Museum (SF Civic Center) | April 3–July 20\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:Chiharu Shiota: Two Home Countries | April 3–July 20\, 2026\n\nEvent Details\nChiharu Shiota: Two Home Countries at the Asian Art Museum is the artist’s first solo museum exhibition in the Bay Area\, bringing together large-scale installations\, sculpture\, video\, drawing\, and stage design that explore themes of belonging\, memory\, and “in-betweenness.” At the heart of the exhibition is Diary\, a monumental installation of red yarn that spans the length of the gallery\, suspending handwritten historical accounts within an immersive web that reflects on identity\, nationality\, and personal history. Across the exhibition\, Shiota draws from her experience living between Japan and Germany\, using her signature thread-based environments to examine absence and presence\, as well as the fragile connections that shape human experience. Also featuring works on paper\, performance documentation\, and stage design materials\, the exhibition offers an intimate look into the artist’s process while inviting viewers to reflect on the shifting boundaries between home\, body\, and memory. *Post to follow soon! \nExhibition Dates\, Hours\, Admission\, Discounts \nChiharu Shiota: Two Home Countries is on view at the Asian Art Museum (SF Civic Center) through July 20\, 2026. \n⭐ ASIAN ART MUSEUM EXHIBITIONS: \n\n\nChiharu Shiota: Two Home Countries through July 20\, 2026\nNew Japanese Clay through June 1\, 2026\nBamboo through April 27\, 2026\nEchoes in the Small Mountaun: Park Dae-sung and the West Coast through July 13\, 2026\nOne Hundred Plays of the Noh Theaterby Tsukioka Kogyo through July 27\, 2026\nA Sound Work by Lala Rukh: Subh-e-Umeed  through Sept. 7\, 2026\nThis American Life through Sept. 28\, 2026\nAl-An deSouza: Table Settings through Nov. 2\, 2026\n\n\n⭐ ASIAN ART MUSEUM HOURS: Open Friday–Monday 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Thursday 1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. CLOSED TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY. \n⭐ ASIAN ART MUSEUM ADMISSION: \n\n\nGeneral Admission Tickets Adults $20\nSeniors 60+ $17\nAges 13–17\, College Students with ID $14\n12 and under FREE\n*SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS + $10 (Includes access to permanent collections)\nMembership starts at $119 GA; $89 Artist/Senior/Student/Teacher\n\n\n⭐ ASIAN ART MUSEUM DISCOUNTS (FREE GA): \n\n\nFREE FIRST SUNDAYS\nDiscover & Go (Free w/library card – may not apply to all counties)\nSF Museums for All (show your EBT or Medi-Cal card/ID)\nCaregiver (one complimentary guest pass for a caregiver or friend accompanying a visitor with special needs.
