Overview
I AM EVERYDAY PEOPLE, featuring the work of Adana Tillman, is the latest show at San Francisco’s Jonathan Carver Moore.
Tillman’s works are created from quilted textiles and hand embellishments, which include fabrics found during her travels—like batik prints discovered in Tanzania—and graffiti inspired upholstery from her residency in Berlin last year.
Her work is vibrant and upbeat, relatable, and poetic. I particularly love the hand-sewn care of the hair in the pieces; the anonymity of the characters lovingly placed in the works; THE SNEAKERS.
This is a MUST SEE SHOW for anyone who loves textile art. I AM EVERYDAY PEOPLE runs until September 23, 2023.
Tillman’s mother is an avid quilter and taught her sewing in adolescence, which later led to a career in costuming and styling before becoming an artist. She grew up in Akron, Ohio and is now based in Atlanta, Georgia.
