Overview
Saint Joseph’s Arts Society’s Club Limelight SF Art Week kickoff party was a blast! Highlights included running into my fashionista friend, Sunny Merry; a John Waters sighting; making new friends (Liam Ocean, check him out, he’s a professional fire dancer AND hula hooper!); impressive cocktails in real glassware, at what is truly such a stunning venue.

Saint Joseph’s Arts Society’s is the creation of interior designer Ken Fulk, so of course, every detail is exquisite. It’s taken me forever to get over to the former Catholic Church built after the 1906 earthquake—turned art-and-culture-venue—but now I cannot wait to go back.

Today’s LOVE LETTER TO ART focuses on Saint Joseph’s WARHOL show, which is fabulously displayed in the plush vignettes lining the venue’s parlor walls. I know it sounds silly, but there is something really exciting and quite glamorous about seeing a show on Warhol party pictures when you are actually at a party.

“Presented by Hedges Projects, this rare collection of 20 photographs offers an intimate window into Warhol’s world—images rarely seen yet essential to understanding his enduring legacy. Curated by Jim Hedges, a leading authority on Warhol’s photographic oeuvre, the series reveals Warhol’s dual lens: one that magnified the spectacle of fame while simultaneously uncovering the quiet beauty of the everyday.”
*The photographs from this exhibition are available for purchase, with 20% of the proceeds benefiting Saint Joseph’s Arts Society.

Maybe I’m a little biased since I’m a HUGE Warhol fan (for more of my thoughts on Andy Warhol, see my review of SFMOMA’s exhibition Andy Warhol—From A to B and Back Again), but I think these photos—depicting Warhol and his LGBTQ+ friends (Liza, Candy, Divine, Marsha P. Johnson, Halston, Keith Haring)—are a perfect fit for Saint Joseph’s Arts Society, which is a strong supporter of artists and the LGBTQ+ community.

🗓 WARHOL is on view until March 10, 2025 at Saint Joseph’s Arts Society. It runs alongside FLIGHTS OF FANTASY: WORKS BY SYLVAN FISS; MIRIAM HITCHCOCK: ALL AT ONCE; and re.riddle’s MATERIAL CONTINUUM featuring Tana Quincy Arcega, Kamran Samimi, and Summer Mei Ling Lee, which close April 11, 2025 (post to follow soon).
