Overview
Botticelli Drawings, curated by Furio Rinaldi, features more than 60 Botticelli works from 39 institutions, and several related works by artists in the Botticelli sphere. The exhibition, which was a 3-year undertaking, is a wonderful large-scale study on Botticelli’s process, showcasing his drawings and their respective paintings side-by-side—a fitting homage to the Renaissance master. Botticelli and Renaissance art aficionados will love this show, and will appreciate being able to examine these stunning works up-close, without needing to travel to Rome. Below are a few of my favorites from the show.
The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco created this excellent video (featured in the exhibition) of Furio discussing Botticelli’s practice expressed in his body of work. The exhibition’s catalogue, also by Furio Rinaldi, was selected as a New York Times Best Art Book of 2023. It is available for sale on Amazon and at FAMSF stores.
🗓 Botticelli Drawings runs until February 11, 2024 at the Legion of Honor.
