Art Calendar: Masaki Fujihata’s BeHere / 1942: A New Lens on the Japanese American Incarceration at OMCA (Oakland) | Sept. 18–Dec. 27, 2026
Masaki Fujihata’s BeHere / 1942: A New Lens on the Japanese American Incarceration explores the forced removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II through immersive installations, historic photographs, and augmented reality (AR). Japanese artist Masaki Fujihata reexamines photographs by Dorothea Lange and Russell Lee, inviting visitors to look more closely at the people and experiences captured in 1942. Featuring new Bay Area–specific installations, a three-screen video with local residents, and an outdoor AR experience in Oak Street Plaza, the exhibition brings this history into the present.
Masaki Fujihata’s BeHere / 1942: A New Lens on the Japanese American Incarceration is on view at OMCA (Oakland Lakeshore) from Sept. 18–Dec. 27, 2026.
